Watch Over Me is a warm olive green polish with a golden glow that shimmers in the light. I created this polish as a tribute to Catherine Hubbard from Newtown, CT, a sweet little red-haired girl with a love for animals who was just 6 years old when she was killed during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. She dreamed of opening her own animal shelter and her parents have asked for donations to be made in her memory to The Newtown Animal Center. I will donate 100% of the profits from the sale of every bottle of this polish to them in her memory. Bottles are available in full size only. Thank you for your donations.

Last week I was visiting Mom at the nursing home, like I do so often. She is doing very well most days despite the stroke in April. Broward Nursing & Rehab is a caring facility that I feel comfortable having her live at. We were just leaving for our usual stroll around the neighborhood when Nicole, the activities director stopped us. She said we couldn’t leave! “WHAT?!?!?! Is this a new rule, I can’t take my mom out for walks, even though I’m her POA?! And she’s MY Mom?!” Yes, I get defensive about my family! “No No” she assured me. We are having a surprise this afternoon and you have to be there. Ok, feathers back down! LOL
So we were in the east dining room by 2:00 as told, and WOW, can I just say – WHAT A NICE SURPRISE IT WAS! The company AutoNation, has very generous employees! They chose Mom’s facility to “adopt” a resident and surprise them with holiday gifts! Many of the residents have no one, so this is the sweetest thing. I hope they realize how wonderful they really are doing this! I can’t thank them enough on my Mom’s behalf. She was gifted a sweater, fragrance sprays and a cuddly dog with a massager built in. She has that sweet little guy close to her all the time. And she’s named him Cuddles! How appropriate. Thank you Tamyra for doing such a great job with my Mom’s gift! XO
I have a video that is about 23 minutes long of the day the AutoNation employees passed out gifts and some of the residents opening them. I hope you’ll take a few minutes out of your day to watch how happy they are with their gifts and just for being thought of at this time of year. And to you and your own family’s, Joe and I wish you a very Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you all!
A Month of Birthdays
May is my Birthday month, and I’m in a birthday group on Facebook. I know, how many times am I’m going to tell you I’m in some fb group? Well it seems to be the social media of choice. I’m not a huge fan of Zuck and all the things he’s done to his baby, but I find it is the best place to keep in contact with your friends and business associates.
You may recall from a previous exchange post that I requested a donation be made in my name to a favorite animal charity. I just have way too much stuff. I imagine most of us do. It’s hard to not look at pretty things and want them, but I just don’t really need them.
Amanda contributed to my favorite charity – Abandoned Pet Rescue. They are a no-kill shelter here in Fort Lauderdale. Joe and I host an annual Halloween event with all donations given to them. This is their very welcoming entrance that was painted entirely by donation.
Yezenia donated to the ASPCA. This is the adorable internet card they sent me!
Amber made a donation to her favorite animal charity Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida. They provide care to injured or orphaned indigenous wildlife. Look at these cute little faces!
Ours is an international group and I’ve received some really nice nail polishes as well! And CANDY. Lots and lots of CHOCOLATE candy! Don’t worry, I’ll be celebrating all month with my wonderful group of friends. There will be more posts to come with some very cool pictures and maybe even a video or two!
So do you contribute time or money to charity? They always need help. My favorites are the animals, since they really have no way to take care of themselves without our help. What is your favorite charity?
Many of you may follow Megan’s blog Painting Rainbows. She is doing an internship right now working with children with disabilities. I’ve known Megan for quite some time and this is a subject that is dear to my heart. Growing up, my best girlfriend’s older brother was severely disabled and I know how much heartache and hardship the family went through. It was a real eye opener as a little kid to be around this and because of it I have a very big soft spot for wanting to help Megan out. I asked her if I could also send Makeup and she lit up telling me that they do indeed want NEW only Makeup for prom that is coming up. The polishes can be used but please make sure you send only new makeup if you plan to include that, too.
I have a lot of used polishes that I won’t use. So I sent all of them. I also have a lot of new Nick’s Sticks that I thought would be good for the kids that could handle them could use to paint their own nails. Again Megan lit up when she found out I was sending those and new Sally Hansen Chrome Pens. She said they could use an adapter so that the kids could handle them and use them themselves. How awesome! I also sent a lot of eyeshadows that I had which hadn’t been used (I’m a sucker for eye makeup).
I ended up using two of the USPS priority padded envelopes. It was cheaper doing that then sending a medium rate box! I also taped the envelopes up really well. One time I sent a padded envelope to someone and all the polish was gone but all the candy and note was there. So to avoid that from now on I always TAPE TAPE TAPE!!! LOL
If you would like to send packages to Megan, you can click here to go directly to her blog, or you can email her at email@example.com to contact her about the polish you want to send and get her address. Please do not send the polish to me! LOL
OK, there you have it! Doing a good deed and getting rid of polishes you won’t use! What’s better than that?!
